4 years ago Company Director Phil Spinella took a call from a couple making inquiry into the possibility of utilizing the services of our affiliated modular construction company Starhouse Pty. Ltd for the purpose of constructing their dream home in the coastal town Portarlington approximately 25 km out of Geelong.
After a few brief meetings concept plans were presented to the building owners who instantly fell in love with the proposed designs.
Concept plans were quickly converted into working drawings effectively signalling the beginning of a new dawn of building technology for the group. 127 days later John Carnovale & his wife Toni took possession of their grand 4 bedroom family home complete with a large 50m2 covered alfresco with extensive views over Port Phillip Bay.
The new home project was not without its fair share of challenges having to first overcome land developer AV Jennings stringent building covenants & design guidelines. We then had a massive amount of site fall to contend with and so immediately set about undertaking an extensive survey plan in order to best manage this obstacle.
We had a brief to ensure that double glazed windows were extensively used throughout the residence as well as upsizing wall & floor insulation to maximize the energy efficiency of the dwelling. Corten steel wall bracing was used to stabilize the external box a well as a method of making the home virtually draft proof.
Once preliminary site works which included a site cut and retaining walls were complete our team set about commencing the subfloor construction. At the same time the modular building components were being simultaneously constructed in our manufacturing plant carefully supervised throughout each stage by our experienced qualified contractors.
Before long, each of the 4 modular components were sequentially transported to site and craned into position by our installation team ready for cladding, roof construction and final connection details.
The result was a cleverly designed, highly efficient residence, built to withstand cyclonically rated wind conditions and delivered in a relatively short turn around.
